Control your phone without touching it…

Last Update for Blog

Hello all Prox users! I am sorry for not being here to answer questions as I have been extremely busy with school. I’m a CS major and a senior so I have a lot on my plate. I just wanted to give one final update for the blog: I will no longer update this blog 😦 I have way too many places to update and I have decided that Twitter will be my primary means for talking with users. If you aren’t already following, here it is: @SemperGumbee. If you have any questions, bugs, or just feedback, please let me know there.

Also, I have put together a small team of senior CS students to help me out and maybe to even become a major Android development team. We are all quite busy so until we have some time off (read: never) we will pull all of our collective ideas into one pot. Hopefully, Prox will become even better. We will also be working on other Android offerings so be on the lookout 🙂

I also have an XDA thread here. I can usually answer questions here also. I will usually have an XDA thread for every release so keep an eye on that. Other than that, thanks for visiting and I hope that I can fulfill all of your wishes for Prox and future apps.

Hello all :(

I know I said I would have a new version on Prox by Tuesday, but I have been extremely busy with work and things around the house. Please stick around as I will be feverishly working on it this weekend. Thanks for all of the support and be on the lookout for a new version soon.

I ran into a speed bump this past weekend and I have not yet had a chance to fix it. If you want the quickest updates possible, follow me on Twitter @SemperGumbee I will usually update that as soon as something comes along.

P.S. If you have downloaded the app and have not left a rating, please leave one as they are extremely helpful to me and future buyers 🙂

I am back, at least for a little bit…

Hello all. Sorry for the long delay for an update but I have been working my ass off at this temporary position right now to help finances through the summer. I just wanted to let everyone know that there is an update planned to be released on Tuesday that will have the following features:

Back button emulation

Back up and restore loadouts and settings

Fix for some people not being able to get left and right tilt gestures working

Maybe something extra tossed in there as a surprise also 🙂

If you are new here, please let me know what you want from this application. I am working on the above (or pretty much done) and I am also working on shortcut launching and app drawer opening. Any other ideas, just let me know 🙂 Cheers!

Update on future update

I know it has been a while since an update. I have a temp job right meow and it’s not giving me that much time to code. I do have a rather beastly update planned when it does come out though. I just wanted to let everyone know that I will continue to develop this application as long as people want new features. You bought an app and I plan to make it worth your money 🙂

I just need some time for this job to be over and things start to settle down around here. And then, I will be back, digging through code and adding cool stuffs to it. Temp job is only a week or two by the way, so it won’t be long.

Peace, love and chicken grease…

Information on where Prox is headed

Hello all. I just wanted to give you a quick update on what I’m doing right now. I am still trying to figure out shortcut launching. Apparently, getting shortcuts is private to launcher apps (like LauncherPro or ADW) so I have to figure out a way to get them and store them for later use. I have seen apps that have pulled this off so I will conquer, I just don’t know when :/

I have figured out back button emulation. It definitely requires root access and I was wondering what you guys thought about this. You could still use Prox exactly how you’re using it now except you won’t be able to use the back button feature. I want to make Prox as fully featured as possible so I want to add everything I can. Do you think this is a good idea? I mean, I know some of you would really enjoy it, but for those of you that are not rooted, I feel like I need to concentrate more on what you can do. Gimme some feedback 🙂

I am also working on updating the UI. I think it kind of looks retro chic, but I don’t want it to look like a beginner application, even though it’s definitely my first foray into Android. I am slowly learning graphics (GIMP, Photoshop, etc.), but as I said, I am a noob in this department. Just wanted to let you know that it will definitely look better in the future…

Also, I want to remind everyone to comment in the requests page and tell me what you want. I have already filled most of the requests there so I definitely listen.

Anyways, just an informational post. Have a great week!

Small update for v1.05

I had a major blonde moment while finishing up that last update so I had to push a new version to the market. Nothing really noticeable, but I did change the layout a little bit.

Update: This update will be the last time I delete your settings. Alas, I have found a way to save all of your information reliably. It will not be automatic though. When you see that there is an update, you will need to go to your settings and click backup and then restore after you have downloaded the new version. It’s better than nothing right?

Anyways keep the ideas coming. I have made so many changes based on what everyone is saying here so I am definitely listening! Just a reminder, I am having major issues with shortcuts right now so it may be a while before those are added to Prox. But I will never quit. They will be there eventually. I think shortcut launching will make Prox infinitely more useful. Auto calling and texting, directions, and maybe it will make other app developers develop shortcuts for their apps. Who knows 🙂

v1.05 has been uploaded :)

Hello all. I have just released version 1.05 to the market with a very interesting addition. There is a new loadout called the Timer loadout. Some people might have reasons why they don’t want to tilt the phone to activate different gestures. You might be laying down, or your phone may be in a dock or cradle, making it very difficult to change the way the phone is positioned. The timer loadout fixes this by activating different actions based on the amount of time the sensor is covered. The first action is called instant and it basically does the same thing as a regular swipe across the sensor. If you hold your hand over the sensor, by default, the phone will vibrate every .75 seconds up to four times. If you uncover the sensor after a set amount of clicks, then you will perform the action associated with your preferences.

There is an option to also allow an audio metronome for when you are not holding the phone and can’t feel the vibration. It will click every .75 seconds and you can release when you are in the desired action.

There are also some pretty cool (I think at least) UI changes. I am slowly learning what works and what doesn’t, but I need help. Please let me know if you like the direction the new look is going. I am willing to make changes based on how my user base is feeling it. Just let me know 🙂

Also, some small bugs were fixed 🙂

Thanks everyone!
