i just bought your app.its amazing and usefull but i was expecting (and that is my request) to be able to scroll menu ,pages on internet etc.so can you pls put it on the app?and i had an idea too.you could do that by making an ather loadout that is only for this.i would be happy if you could do that!

What I would like to have is different actions depending on the app that is in the foreground to simulate button press, swiping etc.

I have two requests, this App is awesome and I have already bought it – but I miss one thing and want another; I don’t know how much power the Prox-sensor takes but I would like to be able to swipe my finger to wake it up also and not just send it to sleep by doing that – and I wonder if you can like add some count-function to it, like the Timer Loadout, but it will count swipes over like 1-2seconds and by that determine what you want.
Of course the user had defined it before the sensor can use the count-function, but if thats possible it would be great. But I most want the option to have the Prox-sensor on while it sleeps to wake it up – I have a Galaxy Nexus and I live that all buttons is on the way to disappear on mobiles and like to use the power-button less and just like a POWER-button and not the Sleep/Awake-button too!

Hello. I would like to propose a feature request to avoid unintentionally activating prox, despite any delay setting. That is what is currently putting me off the pro version. A slow gesture resembling a double click on the sensor to activate any action would be perfect 😉

I ‘m complaced with this tool. At the moment my recomendation will be add the function for pass between screens, like read a book, from left to right and viceverse.
I think that this function increase the style of any android.

It doesn’t seem to be compatible with the Virtuous Unity ROM on a Droid Incredible. Can you look into that or is there a way to get the APK without having to go through the market?

Nifty app! Question: why arbitrarily use “flat” as a reference point? Why not let the user set what his “normal” position is – then “toward” and “away” would be calculated with respect to the user’s “normal” position. Or maybe set/reset the normal position whenever the user holds the unit in any given position for more than, say, 3 seconds. Or maybe the average of positions over the past 3 seconds. Just my first thoughts.

You need to patent this thing or something before someone else makes a rip off.Its that awesome.Also a toward right and toward left would be very helpful.Also..if i could just gesture to send the message i just typed instead of touching the send button…it would be awesome.You have a got a potential top grossing app here..needs more functions thats it.

Love the app!
Can the next feature be to turn ON the phone? There are a lot of proximity sensor apps out there and some of them have it. It would be great that the best proximity sensor app has it too.

Hello,
I just wanted to drop a comment letting you know that I think your app is a great idea, but unfortunately it doesn’t do what I want it to do.
I want Prox for one thing and one thing only: to be able to pause and resume music while my phone is lying on my desk, with the screen off. Here’s my usage scenario:
* Me, listening to music on headphones
* Coworker approaches, I need to pause music.
* swipe my hand over my phone, and presto, music is paused.
Currently I have to fumble for the power button, unlock the phone, and tap pause on my music widget. Prox would make this action extremely easy.
Please, add this to a future release and I will happily buy your app!

Hello!
Just bought your app, thanks for the effort it is really fun to use generally speaking. I have one thing that’s annoying me a little bit, getting my phone into “left” or “right” position is not very comfortable for me as is. I want to tilt the phone left or right in “Toward” mode. Adding Toward-left and Toward-right would be a great way to improve the program and/or it would be very useful to have an advanced configuration option where I can manually set or alter the cords of which trigger the different tilting modes. When I’m in “toward” activating “right” with x <=-2 would do the trick.
App drawer or home screen page turn would be nice, but I can understand why that is next to impossible to implement with all the different launcher apps…

I have been thinking about this because the normal person holds the phone in the toward orientation for overall use. Thanks for the heads up. I hope to start working on this when my temporary position is over. I gotta make money somehow! But be on the lookout for an update that addresses this.

i really have to appreciate you for such an awesome and nice stuff!! but can u develop this app for sony ericsson xperia x8 (android 2.1)?? i have an app called “Photo Safari Pro”, it also works on gestures with d help of proximity sensor, we just have to wave our hand over proximity sensor to get next picture from the album, and this app works pretty much nicely on my android 2.1 device!! So i think “Prox Pro” can b developed for android 2.1 as well, and i think it’s not a pretty big deal for you!! Thanx!!

The only thing that requires 2.2 is the screen off action. But the only way I can get the screen to turn off instantly is to grant the application administrative rights, which requires android 2.2.

Would it, or is it possible now, to change screens?
Also, I use WidgetLocker and when I use the lock screen function, it takes to the standard lock screen. Any way around that?

Not sure what you mean by change screens. Also, I was unaware that locking the screen takes you to the normal lock screen instead of your Widget Locker install. I will definitely look into it.

This is a wonderful app, although i do believe that you should enable a loadout with timer that allows you to navigate and swipe the screen without touching it… it just seems like a more natural thing to do…
For example, what i would love to see is to hold my phone and swipe left or right to cycle through home screens and applications (Galaxy S/TouchWiz), and the toward and away swipes allow me to open close the notifications. If I am viewing a web page, then I should be able to use the away and toward loadouts to scroll up and down… and finally… holding my hand over the proximity sensor could cycle through all the available tap-able objects and a single swipe in the flat position should correspond to a tap…

I know what you mean dude. I really want to make it Kinect like to let you be able to control almost anything. The API for generating touch events is a little shoddy, but I am experimenting with it. Trust me, I want to make this happen, but alas,, I am only one (married, with a job) guy and I can only work on it when I have the time. Hopefully, this will become a reality later in development. Is it possible for you to make some sort of free trial version? Where people can try out the full app for a week or less, then they can decide whether they want to buy or not.
I love the idea, just want to see if it’s more practical and less of a novelty before I decide to spend.

There was a free trial version but I had to pull it because people were having problems with it in versions of Android lower than 2.2. The Pro version requires 2.2, so it has less problems. I am planning on refactoring some of the code to play nicer with the lite version, but I have a lot on my plate right now. I don’t know when it’s going to be available again, but it will eventually be there. I had no clue that Gizmodo was going to post this or I wouldn’t have pulled the free version yet, but I can’t take all of the low ratings that the free version was getting. I have to make it better or sales of the Pro version would suffer. Sorry for the inconvenience

No need to be sorry! It’s part of the process. Chances are I might just buy it anyway.
Besides, most low ratings on great apps like yours are from people who honestly have no need for the app, haven’t bothered to learn how to use it properly or don’t even know what it is/does.
Like I said, I love the idea and I think this will be something great (seems like something that could be standard in Android devices).
I’ll be following this closely!

Hi, do you have this app for android 2.1 ? if you do can it disable the proximity switch? My proximity switch went bad and my screen locks during calls. The only way to unlock it is by removing the battery.

No sir. I can’t control what your phone app does during a call. Prox is only available for devices with 2.2 or newer. One idea I can give you is to install another dialer app, one that gives you control over the proximity sensor. I don’t know if any are out there, but it’s worth a shot.

Dev – Clever / inventive app with great possibilities. Here are some thoughts:
1. Can we be given the option to activate Prox in landscape mode? Here’s why: I place my phone in landscape mode when it’s docked in my car (so I have landscape view when using Google Navigation). Right now I have yet to find an app that can switch between apps in a convenient and aesthetically pleasing way. PROX offers this potential – what’s more attractive and minimal than nothing? 😉 When driving, I’d like to be able to swipe my hand over the landscape-oriented phone to take me to home, then change the track I’m listening to, then hit the Nav icon to switch back.
2. Related to item 1, is there any way to have some sort of internal counter in PROX such that it switches between 2 different app selections based on whether the counter reads odd or even? This way, I could swipe once to activate Nav, swipe a second time to activate my chosen music app, swipe a third time to pull Nav back up, and so on and so forth.
3. Would love to see improved icon for the status bar, or the option to hide it from view.

You make an interesting point there. The reason I have landscape disabled is because when someone starts to text or something in landscape, you obviously don’t want to be launching something. But I see your point. I could make a “dock mode” loadout that basically has only one direction and enable hold times to activate a few different customizable options. Since you can’t really tilt your phone when it’s docked, you can select this loadout, customize it, and then hold over the sensor for 1, 2, or 3 seconds and it will do something different every time. I really might do this. Thanks for the idea!
Also, on the whole notification icon. I really can’t give users the ability to get rid of it. If I do, anything that hogs memory will cause Android to flush Prox out of RAM and it will no longer be activated. I am a noob when it comes to images and whatnot, but I am slowly learning. What are some of your thoughts on icons? I am open to suggestions 🙂

Docking mode is already done! I just renamed it to Timer 🙂 Just set up your loadout, dock the phone, and hold your hand over the sensor for a certain amount of clicks to perform an action. You don’t have to tilt the phone at all. It activates a different gesture based on the amount of clicks that have occurred 🙂

I;m trying to install pro version on my DX and the market is saying my phone isn’t compatible and I installed the lite just fine. I uninstalled lite to see if that was the problem but it wasn’t then when I tried to install lite again it is saying my phone wasn’t compatible again.

The GB leak for the DX is making Prox not show up for people looking for it. I have no reason why this is so, but I have no way of making it show up for these users. There might be something wrong in the leaked build that is making this not show up. Until you flash another ROM, or maybe even revert to an older one to download it, and then flash back, then I have no way of getting this to you
